Dustin Wallace is a texas-based Art Director and Designer at Fossil, and American manufacturer of watches and leathergoods. I’ve always admired the importance that Fossil has placed on the design and packaging of their products, placing many of their retail items inside decorative and functional metal tins, and employing designers in the past such as Brent Couchman (a good friend of Dustin’s).
Freelancing on the side, and running a small team of designers at Fossil (which includes Aaron Eiland and Jonathan Schubert) Dustin pumps out some amazing work for their in-store signage and packaging, as well as a slew of logos and illustrations for everything from Charities to Softball Leagues.
His use of type feels so genuine, he really manages to get frightfully close to authentic looking vintage packaging. So much so that he’s been featured on The Dieline for striking that ‘vintage paint can’ chord.
I understand Dustin is in the process of remodeling his newly acquired Mid Century home, and I can’t help but feel his work will be perfectly at home inside it.
CNBC’s upcoming spot on America’s Trade relationship with Cuba, features a very appropriate use of Cubano.
Our friend Eric R. Mortensen has teamed up once more with Jessica Heltzel and Tim Hoover (creators of the Kern and Burn book/site that we blogged recently) and started a super fun new project called The People’s Pennant.
Each month a limited edition run of 250 Pennants (created by notable artists and designers) are hand sewn and printed the USA, and sold for $35 + shipping and handling.
For a limited time only: Tweet a link to this post for a chance to win a free Richard Perez Pennant! Winner will be chosen at random on March 21st.
“Rally around the small things in life! Driving with the windows down. Lazy Sundays. A freshly sharpened pencil. Whatever it is that makes you happy, we want to celebrate it. So we bring you: The People’s Pennant. We elevate the pennant from the confines of sports to the awesomeness of the everyday. Our pennants are hand-printed and hand-sewn in the U.S.A. Crafted by folks who’ve helped shape the tradition since the early 1900s, they have produced felt products with care for home-town victories to world championships. Collect all of the pennants, and show some team spirit for the small things in life.”
The “Free Your Brand” box is a self-promo mailer from the agency to key prospective clients as a creative new business outreach strategy. Designed to match MCM’s brand standards and personality, the enclosed print piece tells a fast, yet funny story about the challenges and opportunities our clients face every day. The mailing box itself is designed as a teaser of what’s inside — inspiring higher open rates.
